Last week I attended the opening of ‘S’ in the photo museum in Antwerp. ‘S’ is a recently finished project by Gert Jochems and deals with extreme fashions of Sex – with capital ‘S’ to which the project refers to.
Difficult to place this project. On the hand there’s this typical voyeurism in which we get an inside view into people’s private matters, on the other hand the project shows a mixture of color, black & white, big & small, static & dynamic and so forth resulting in a lack of recognisable style. The museum consists of some pretty large exposition spaces, but I would have preferred to see less, – tighter edited – but a more coherent set of images in a number of smaller settings, giving the images a more intimate feel. Anyhow these pictures, which
are could have been made at your next door neighboor, seem to touch any spectator in some way at least and isn’t that what art is about in the first place?
The expo is on display until 27/01/2013 in the photo museum in Antwerp.
